Many of us ask this question to ourselves. why do we find some people interesting and some others boring? Is it because he or she is beautiful, attractive, educated, innocent or talkative? is the answer "yes" or "No".
Beauty does sometimes masks the faults of the person as in an old saying in dhivehi says "ruhumuge lolakah aibeh nufennaane", but this does not last as a permanent interest. Coming to education,good scholars are more logical with more balanced mind and vast array of knowledge, they can communicate intellectually with the fools, still they can be boring? why?
My dear think of a situation when you find someone easy to go along. what makes you pull like a magnet towards the person. Isn't it good communications skills or something else.
would you agree with me if i say its nothing but "effective communication"?
Is there any difference between communication and effective communication?
communication as i copied from Wikipedia is "the imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs, a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior which can be perceived as a two-way process in which there is an exchange and progression of thoughts, feelings or ideas towards a mutually accepted goal or direction".
We all communicate in our day to day life. And it is a question to ask how many of the (verbal or nonverbal or visual)communications reach the accepted goal?isn't it? if it reach the accepted goal can we call it an effective communication?
If not, what is effective communication? i think its better to rephrase the question and ask who is an effective communicator and what are the qualities in such a person which appeals us?
If i share my experience here all what i can say is they are the people gifted or attained with good speaking and listening skills.. Good listener in the sense hearing, understanding and judging on the talk of the other person with interest, giving time for the other person to speak. He or she can be still boring if happen to be a bad speaker.. Speaking requires good voice, well confident sound, with thoughtful feedback's , good tone, eye-contact, humor, and most importantly appropriate gestures and body language..
Some people find attracted to people who talk politely without laughs, while others find attracted to people who talk humorously with laughs in between, if both the group of people attain the above goal i call them as effective communicators..
Haven't you come across a situation where you find less interested to hear and no motivation to listen to a person who fulfills all the above qualities of a good speaker..? Then all i can say is even if you don't acknowledge you are a bad listener....:P

that dhivehi proverb means... you wont find fault in anyone you like. not the other way round. but nyway got ur point. :) dont you think almost all humans are in someway lookist? ofcourse we dont use the word ugly all the time. but we say it, we discriminate all the time. consciously and unconsciously.
ReplyDeletei find human beings alway interesting. but im not a very social being. and i believe i lack social skills. these are important for 'good communications' u mentioned. but some of these 'skills' makes one feel like a hypocrite.yet these are important in our society. :S

hmmm..most of us are brought up like that..its not only you in fact i think i also lack social skills, in my opinion the problem with us we prefer to observe and listen..
hehe hypocrite...ofcos it does i know, but visualizing life in a work environment after few years, to be successful in career we need it, although we don't posses it. i am also quiet in nature yet when it comes to being professional i don't wont miss a thing..
